I started around January trying to enlist in the Army Reserves. At the beginning of this month, I went down to MEPS (military entrance processing station). I did the quick physical stuff; weight, documenting new scars or tattoos, urine tests. After waiting for a few hours, I went to see the Army laison. I sat and gave him all the information he asked for and signed anything they needed me to sign. Then I went and sat and waited for my MOS (military occupation specialty) to be accepted for approval. Ya see on the day that I went, the army had recieved their quota for the year for the reserves and certain MOSs. I happen to get lucky in that I had chosen an MOS that they needed to fill. 88H, Cargo Specialist. Well, after waiting all morning, I heard my name over the intercom. I almost ran to the laison's office. He went over everything with me and we signed any thing that was needed to be signed. I swore in at about 1:00p.m that afternoon. I am now the property of Uncle Sam for 6years, but am commited for 8 years total. ya see after 6 they can reactivate me for another 2. I'll probably reenlist after 6 anyways so it doesn't matter. And by then I'll probably be active unless ALOT of things change in my life in that time frame.
I haven't gone to basic training yet, but will be shipping out to Fort Jackson, South Carolina on October 20th. After 12 weeks 4 days, I graduate BCT and then go to AIT (advanced Individual Training) for my MOS at Fort Eustis, Virginia. I'll be there for 2 months. Then I come home and will be doing my one weekend per month until my unit gets deployed in late fall of next year. The interesting and good thing is that my unit being a Transportation Corps unit is also a SeaPort operations unit. So, we get deployed to Sea Ports. We are the ones that load and unload stuff on the ships and trains.
I'm anxious to get to and through BCT. I get to come home for christmas so, that will be great. then I go back and get ready for graduation.
YEA ME!!!!
If I get a weekend pass during AIT I'll try to get on here and post to let a few of ya know what's going on. I'll probably post during the xmas exodus also. Let ya'll know how BCT went.
HOOAY!!!!
PEACE, LOVE, and lots of laughter,
MUSE
